The year is 2033 and the world hovers on the edge of explosion as unexplained crop deaths lead to severe global food shortages. In the United States, the Sickness is taking lives slowly, creeping its way into every family. Fi Kelly has already faced the Sickness in her own family, toughening her beyond her years. But a shocking confession from her dying father will push her toughness to its absolute limits. Saddled with an impossible secret and the mission of saving her little sister, Fi sets out to transform herself into the warrior that she must become to survive the coming collapse. Along the way, she will discover that evil can be accidental and that love can be intentional

I received my copy of Eden’s Root in exchange for my honest opinion from the author for the ATOMR Book Tour.

When I started Eden's Root, I wasn't sure I would have liked it, but as soon as I passed the first chapters, the story captured me and I could not help but continue reading to see what would happen next.

First, Eden's Root is a dystopian very, very special. What makes it different? The fact that the story described by Fisher is terribly realistic, not something that you know will never happen, and then you read quietly, but that could take place in the near future, and that makes you remain awake at night thinking and thinking about.

As I said, the world that Fisher has managed to create is so realistic that I had hard time to think that Eden's Root is a dystopian novel. Everything described could happen in reality, and this is stunning and scary at the same time. I also appreciated the scientific basis on which stands the whole story.

There aren't unsubstantiated assumptions, it is evident that the author has documented the subject and that she knows what she's talking about, and she explains the theme to the reader clearly and simply, it isn't at all difficult to understand!

Fi is a fantastic character. At first, the fact that he was only thirteen years old held me back a bit, but after a few chapters it's clear that she is not a simple teenager, and page after page she grows and matures to a point that is hard to think that who is talking is a young girl.

Fi is one of the best heroines I've ever met. Not only she is strong, brave and stubborn, but she also knows how to fight and hunt, and she can defend herself without anyone's help. Plus she understands and accept within a few days the shocking secrets that his father reavels her, and she decides to become the leader of a group of 15 people or so, and guide them into the wild in search of a place that not even certainly exist.

I liked Sean a lot. In the first part of the book I was really sorry for him. He loved Fi for years, but he knows that she doesn't feel his own feelings, and that he loves him only as a brother. I fully expected that sooner or later Fi would change her mind, and instead Fisher surprised me bringing on stage a new character, Asher, who will obviously be the love interest Fi.

At first I was a little irritated by Asher, I was sure that the three would have create another love triangle, but instead the author surprised me again, because throughout the novel i didn't see even the shadow of a triangle!

The end was wonderful. Although it left me slightly shocked, and above all, curious.

I want to read more! Luckily the sequel came out just monday, so I will have the opportunity to find out what will happen to Fi and his family soon!

4 stars!
